Supply chain & logistics footprint design

Supply chain footprints of companies are becoming increasingly more complex
Over the years a lot of change happens, such as enhancements in the product range, other customer service requirements, supplier changes, company takeovers, reallocation of production or new stock locations. As part of the supply chain strategy, it is necessary to periodically assess whether the current footprint still fits with the business strategy and market developments.

The following points may be part of this reconsideration:

  • changes in customer portfolio, delivery locations and service requirements;
  • expansion or reduction of the product range;
  • change of supply routes of major suppliers;
  • reallocation of production over existing sites;
  • integration of supply chains after a business takeover;
  • reduction or expansion of stock and consolidation locations.

Supply chain footprint design requires a balanced approach
Next to assessing and analyzing the current situation, it is also required to respond to future developments. Therefore, this is not only a supply chain related project, with the involvement of other functions such as marketing and sales being crucial. Joint definition of possible scenarios is required. Furthermore, attention must be paid to the 'cost of change' of possible scenarios. This is not only about one-off financial expenses, but also about necessary changes in the organization in order to be able to perform in the future.

LogiLex's role in supply chain & logistics footprint design
This process has a strong substantive side, but also requires a great deal of coordination to involve various people. Many companies do not experienced managers available to lead such a project. Or decide to use external support to ensure the project gets sufficient management attention.

LogiLex can as external professional be used for coordination and contributing to:

  • project design, planning and management;
  • selection of external modeling specialist if required;
  • drawing up the base case (current situation) including data collection;
  • definition of alternative scenario’s;
  • interpretation of network modeling results;
  • assessment of one-off costs and implications;
  • evaluation and conclusions of scenario results ;
  • drawing up summary final report.
