Transport management design

Transport is a significant part of the total cost of every product
It is usually not clearly visible in supply chain costs, but there is a lot of transport in a product: supply from supplier to factory, from factory to central warehouse and to local warehouse, from warehouse to customer, urgent shipments and returns. This is also increasing as a result of omni-channel. It concerns different modalities such as road, water or air and shipment sizes (FTL, LTL, package). 

Is transport management well organized?

There are various options for setting up the transport management function in a company: decentralized with a joint TMS, central department (control tower) or outsourcing to a specialized logistics service provider (4PL). Given the pressure on costs, service performance and sustainability, every company really needs to know how transport management is currently organized and what the future vision should be.
