Supply chain strategy design

Supply chain strategy design

A supply chain which also in the future is aligned with the business strategy.
Within every supply chain work is done on a daily basis to improve the processes and performance. But to what extent does the current structure and set up fit with future developments? Measures may be required to support growth or to further reduce costs. Making plans and implementing changes takes (a lot of) time. It makes sense to periodically review the supply chain with the business strategy as starting point.

Possible changes are:

  • new market segments and omni-channel strategy;
  • changes in existing customer and product portfolio;
  • stricter requirements for product specifications from the market or legislation;
  • new product or production technology;
  • integration of supply chains after a business takeover;
  • revised make/buy choices or reallocation of production;
  • consequences of international changes such as Brexit.

A strategy is about making choices
In all supply chains the performance should go up and costs must be reduced. But which parts of the supply chain in particular need to be structurally changed? Perhaps changes are needed in the supply chain footprint , or specific functions or processes need to be strongly improved. Or is it necessary to change the set up of the supply chain due to segmentation of customers or product/market combinations. Often a different way of working is needed to achieve the desired goals. In determining the strategy, it is important to make choices and to communicate these to everyone involved.

LogiLex's role in supply chain strategy design
This process has a strong substantive side, but also requires a great deal of coordination to involve various people. Many companies do not always have the capacity to coordinate such a project internally.

LogiLex can be used as an external professional for:

  • project approach, planning and management;
  • mapping and quick scan of the current supply chain;
  • challenging the status quo and sparring about strategic opportunities;
  • guiding the strategic decision-making process;
  • drawing up the strategic plan and final report.

LogiLex's experience in supply chain strategy design

  • efficiency improvement project for a producer of potato products (Farm Frites);
